Mark Twain -- first of many

Samuel Langhorne Clemens is always a good man to fall back on when you need a quick filler. Here's a quotation that peppers the internet, though I haven't found which work it comes from:

If Michael's father were alive, he'd be able to tell me immediately whether this is authentic. I'm typing overlooked by a signed photograph of Twain. On the back is an inscription that reads, in part, "For Dennis Welland -- With the Compliments of the American Embassy ... Cultural Affairs Office ... 18 APR 1968." Twain was one of DSRW's favo(u)rite research subjects.
