Stewart on Sanford

I lied. Or was simply too optimistic. That "tomorrow" for California photos just didn't happen. And now it's not going to happen until we're in France. I'll get Michael to put all my Picasa files on his memory stick to transfer to the computer in Laroque. So much for good intentions.

Instead, I'll post something much funnier and more topical. Below is a copy of the e-mail I just sent to Lansdale for my sister Cheri. I've been pressing her to be sure to catch The Daily Show on Comedy Central while she's visiting from Germany. Admittedly, Jon Stewart isn't always on form, but when he is, I think he's brilliant. Michael and I were laughing out loud as we watched this last night (here in the UK we get the programs one day late).

Happy 4th of July, by the way. US satire is one of the things we can enthusiastically celebrate today. The Brits no longer have a monopoly on irony (if they ever really did--I don't recall that Lenny Bruce and Bill Hicks were UK citizens--or rather subjects--the difference is that now US irony has gone mainstream).

Video clip for Cheri (though I think everyone will find it funny). . . Mom should like the reference to Episcopalians.

Here's the full quotation for the other Stewart quip on Sanford I mentioned:

"Oh. Marital infidelity. You are just another run-of-the-mill human being whose simple moralizing about the sanctity of marriage is only marred by the complexities of their own life. Well, just another politician with a conservative mind and a liberal penis."
